The Carol Lee Cup Comes Home!

Inaugurated at the 2009 Tampa race festival, the Carol Lee Memorial Cup Race was created to honor the memory of Carol Lee Banks, a beloved member of the Pink Dragon Ladies who lost her battle with cancer in October of 2008.

Sponsored by Dr. Kathryn Kepes, a Tampa radiation oncologist and self acclaimed “Boat People Groupie,” the Carol Lee Cup has eluded the grasp of the Pinks until this year.  Under the guidance of visiting Canadian coach, Julie Beaulieu, the team managed to eek out a narrow but sweet victory over SOS and WOW, two other BCS teams, in the first race of the day.  It was a hard fought heat with the 3 teams finishing within a second of each other.  Tears of joy and relief were mingled with fond but heavy hearted memories of Carol Lee and her signature greeting:  Pinkies up!
