What is Dragon Boating?

Dragon boating is an ancient team paddling sport that brings people together in a long, narrow boat decorated with a dragon’s head and tail. A full team includes:

  • 20 paddlers sitting two by two

  • A drummer at the front to keep the rhythm

  • A steersperson at the back to guide the boat

Each stroke is taken in perfect unison, which makes the boat surge powerfully forward from a standstill. It’s not about individual strength — it’s about teamwork, rhythm, and connection.

Twenty paddlers, one heartbeat — moving forward together

Why Survivors Paddle
For breast cancer survivors, dragon boating is more than exercise. It’s a way to:

  • Benefit from studies showing that regular exercise can reduce breast cancer recurrence risk by up to 40%

  • Share camaraderie and support with others who understand

  • Feel the joy of competing together

  • Rebuild physical strength after treatment

  • Improve balance, endurance, and confidence

What We Do as a Team

  • Hold twice-weekly practices on the water in our team-owned boat

  • Provide all paddles, safety gear, and coaching

  • Host clinics and workshops to teach safe and effective paddling

  • Participate in local, national, and international races

  • Foster a caring, supportive community where survivors encourage each other during and beyond treatment
